Dance, dance, dance in Tallinn!

In case you didn’t realise yet, the keyword for the Tallinn tour stop was dancing! Some very cool new campaign activists came up with a funky dance routine for a flashmob. As expected, we turned quite a few heads with this and attracted some Rocca al Mare shoppers to dance along. To continue the rhythm, Queen Elizabeth hosted a fun dancehall workshop and it was Francois who got a bunch of people stomping with random items. The drum workshop he organised made the beat sound in the furthest corners of the mall. All this helped gather around 400 signatures to help make chocolate fair. If you missed the chance to sign the petition, feel free to do it right here in the tour blog or on makechocolatefair.org. Thanks to everyone who participated and if you didn’t quite get enough of fair chocolate, just get in touch (makechocolatefair@mondo.org.ee)! Until then, keep an eye on the tour blog and campaign website for updates.
Tallinna tuuripeatuse võtmesõnaks on küll vaieldamatult „tants”!

Flashmobs and stomping = MCF! in Tartu

Some 20 youth were the stars of the tour stop in Tartu. With 5 flashmobs in and around Tartu Kaubamaja we sure attracted some attention. Of course, the chocomobile helped too: there were some curious folk wondering about the vehicle throughout the day. Though we were greeted by about 20 minutes of heavy rain just in the middle of setup, the event itself was relatively rain free and oh-so-warm after the chilly day in Riga. With new and already experienced activists, we collected almost 500 signatures to help make chocolate fair.
One Really happy day in Riga

Thank you MCF for coming to Riga! We are really warmed by the hopes and dreams brought for a better and fairer chocolate. We are thankful to all the people in the Kalnciema kvartāls who came, participated in our attractions, signed the petition and supported the cause in general! We wanted to let you know that during all day we collected nearly 500 signatures, which is quite decent for a small-scale event like that. Another good thing is that we managed to have a short discussion with our local chocolate producers, and they understand the troubled situation in the developing countries and some of them are really looking towards fair trade already (news will follow in a while for this one!). We do hope you liked the chocolate and that you did enjoy yourself in chocolate casting workshop, turning the chocowheel or listening to Nils Īle and his band. We are, furthermore, grateful to Kalnciema kvartāls for providing us with such a great venue for the event. You were really lovely and supportive and the MCF fit in with the market rather nicely, in our opinion. We would like to also thank Ansis Bogustovs for moderating the event so smoothly and by grasping the idea of MCF so quickly. To Nils Īle thank You for the great performances! And of course to all our volunteers helping us out! Last but not least we are also most grateful to the weather for being good and non-rainy the whole day and in overall we did not mind the brisk, that just kept us very active!

Upcoming: October 18 – Riga

The ChocoMobile will arrive in Riga on Saturday, the 18th of October. It will join the local seasonal market in Kalnciema Kvartāls, situated on Kalnciema street 35. For all the early birds the activities will start at 10 am with an official opening and continue until the closure of the market at 4 pm for the late bloomers. We'll be telling a story of the cocoa farmers and chocolate production through various fun activities for the whole family – live music straight from Africa, the Chocowheel contest (yes, there will be prizes ;), an exhibition about the lives of cocoa producers, workshops for children and more!  From 12:30 to 13:00 new fun cartoons about Fair Trade will be presented in the market hall (yes, grown-ups are allowed as well ;). At 14:00 local chocolate producers will step up and discuss cocoa production and what can we do to make life better for cocoa farmers and workers. The event will conclude at 4 pm, so make sure you make it on time (we don't mind the late bloomers, but there might not be any chocolate left)!

Upcoming: October 20 – Tartu

In and around Tartu Kaubamaja there will be fun to join from 5pm to 8pm on the school holiday Monday: DJ-s will be playing their favourite african beats, drum and dance workshops are open for everyone, an exhibition will give a good overview of the chocolate value chain and there'll be a chance to dress up and take fun photos with your own slogans. See you in Tartu! Kohtumiseni Tartus!

Upcoming: October 26 – Helsinki

In spring 2014, a group of Easter bunnies gathered on Helsinki Railway Square to demand Fair chocolate. Did you miss them? No worries, the bunnies are back! They will make their reappearance on Narinkka Square on October 25 at 1-5 p.m.
During the four hours, we will screen scenes of The Dark Side of Chocolate, a documentary about the chocolate industry. Free Fairtrade hot chocolate will keep the audience of the outdoor theatre warm and cozy.
During its visit in Helsinki, the MCF campaign will be on the brink of meeting its target of 50,000 petitions signed. To celebrate the achievement, the bunnies are inviting all campaign supporters to a party, held in Pacifico in Kallio. The night’s dresscode is “bunny” and the event is part of the queer feminist Cool Cat in Town club tour. The party is free of charge and only for over 18-year-olds. The night’s programme features dj Electriquette and a pub quiz with Fair chocolaty prizes. Be sure not to miss this!
